IBM DB2 Services

We design, query, optimize, and migrate IBM DB2 databases for mainframe and distributed environments. DB2 is the backbone of many enterprise systems built over decades, and we treat it accordingly — as something to understand deeply before proposing changes.

Capabilities

What we do with DB2

Tables · Indexes · Views

Schema Design and Review

Logical and physical schema design for new DB2 databases, and review of existing schemas to identify normalization issues, missing indexes, and performance bottlenecks.

SQL PL · Native SQL

Stored Procedure Development

DB2 stored procedures for encapsulating complex business logic, batch operations, and data transformation tasks that run close to the data without network round trips.

EXPLAIN · Access paths

Performance Tuning

Query tuning using DB2 EXPLAIN and access path analysis, index design, RUNSTATS management, and buffer pool configuration to bring slow queries within acceptable thresholds.

Version · Platform

Migration and Upgrade

Planning and executing DB2 version upgrades and platform migrations, including testing for SQL compatibility changes, BIND revalidation, and performance regression testing.

Q-Replication · HADR

Replication and High Availability

Setting up DB2 Q-Replication for mainframe environments or HADR for LUW deployments to support disaster recovery and read scaling requirements.

REST · API bridge

Modernization Integration

Exposing DB2 data to modern applications through REST APIs, JDBC connection pools, and data extraction pipelines that let downstream systems consume mainframe data without direct DB2 access.

Our approach

Access path analysis before query changes

A query that looks correct can perform badly because of the access path DB2 chooses for it. We use EXPLAIN to see how the optimizer is accessing data before making index or SQL changes, so we understand the cause before changing anything.

BIND and package management

DB2 application plans and packages affect performance and compatibility in ways that are not always obvious. We manage BIND parameters deliberately, understand the implications of CURRENTDATA, ISOLATION, and DEGREE settings, and test bind changes in a staging environment before applying them to production.

Schema changes on live systems

Altering a DB2 table that production applications are actively using requires a plan. We assess the impact of DDL changes on existing plans and packages, sequence the changes to minimize downtime, and validate the result before the change window closes.

Data integrity before performance

Referential integrity, constraint validation, and transaction isolation are not optional for enterprise DB2 systems. We set up constraints correctly and do not recommend removing them for performance reasons without understanding the full downstream impact.
